About this event

The Embroiderers’ Guild moved to Bucks in 2016 from its previous home in Walton-on-Thames.

Since that time much work has been done to improve the storage and accessibility of the Guild’s stunning collection, which comprises several thousand pieces of historical and contemporary embroidery from around the world.

Will Phillips, a curator at Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the EG collection.

In this illustrated talk from June 2023, he gave a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at the Museum Resource Centre in Halton - where much of the collection is stored - to show how it is cared for and made accessible to the public.

With his unique insight into curating EG exhibitions and displays in recent years, Will looked forward to showing some of his favourite pieces from the collection.

Will has been Keeper of Social History at Discover Bucks Museum (formerly Bucks County Museum) since 2008.

Before this, he worked at the Museum of English Rural Life in Reading. He studied History of Art and Architecture at Reading University and has an MA in Museum Studies from University College London.
