Join this online workshop Doodle Stitching - Mindful Hand Embroidery with Jessica Grady.
Doodle stitching is a great mindful stitch practice to try out new stitches, threads and build patterns on fabric. In this Zoom workshop embroidery artist Jessica Grady will show you her favourite hand embroidery stitches, and the ways that you can layer and change them to get different patterns and textures.
Stitches shown within the workshop include: running stitch, French knots, couching, chain stitch and blanket stitch. This is a great workshop for getting creative, trying some new stitches or exploring the ones you know in new contemporary ways.
Jessica will be sharing lots of her tips and tricks along the way to ensure you get the most out of your stitching. At the end of the workshop you will have the beginnings of your own doodle cloth that you can build up and continue stitching into, or use as a sample for your own projects.
This workshop is suitable for all abilities.
We are running a number of short workshops and demonstrations which are £2.99 for members and between £10 and £15 for non-members. As well as upcoming events, members can also access recordings of past workshops at a reduced price, to watch at their leisure.

Your Tutor
Jessica Grady is an award winning embroidery artist, tutor and author from West Yorkshire, England. Her work is a colourful and creative exploration of hand stitch and mixed media, and she utilises waste and recycled materials, which are transformed into exciting embellishments.
Jessica’s work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe and Asia, and she shares her skills across the UK and beyond through workshops and lectures. Her first book - Stitched Mixed Media was published in 2023 with Crowood Press.
Required Materials List
- Background fabric - this can be plain or pre-patterned with paint/dye - or use a piece of printed fabric that you like.
- Embroidery Hoop.
- Needle and scissors.
- Mix of threads inc. ribbons/wools/thick and thin threads/textured yarn - in whatever colours you wish.
Optional Materials
- Additional small sequins/beads/buttons.
Optional Kits are available for purchase for those in the UK only for £5 plus £2.50 shipping. Kits contain:
- Hand painted calico background fabric
- Mixed Unusual Thread bundle
- Mixed embellishments inc. buttons/beads + sequins
- Mixed material scraps
