About this event
Create your own stitched and embellished contemporary brooch using recycled and traditional textiles materials.
Come along to this zoom workshop and create your very own hand stitched and embellished brooch design using combinations of recycled and traditional textile materials. Beginners are more than welcome as embroidery artist Jessica Grady will teach you her colourful and contemporary techniques for creating 3D, creative designs. You will learn techniques including: layered and folded sequins, tufted embroidery and vertical beading. You will leave the workshop with your very own unique piece of art to wear!
Suitable for beginners as well as more experienced embroidery and textile makers.
We are running a number of short workshops and demonstrations which are £2.99 for members and between £10 and £15 for non-members. As well as upcoming events, members can also access recordings of past workshops at a reduced price, to watch at their leisure.

Registration gives you access to the on demand recording of the stitching workshop Embellished Textile Brooches with Jessica Grady on May 26th 2023.

Materials List
A list of required and optional materials
• Brooch pin
• Front + Back panel for brooch - I would recommend a thick fabric with some stiffness such as leatherette, PVC, denim, heavy calico but you can use whatever you have available
• Needle + embroidery thread of your choice + scissors
• Scraps of fabric/paper/recycled plastics - any colours/types - small scraps are perfect for cutting into shapes and embellishments
• Small embellishments such as buttons, beads, sequins and shapes
• Mesh/lace fabric (optional)
• Wool/thicker yarn/ribbon or embroidery thread
• Wadding (optional) - if you are using a thinner front + back panel, such as a cotton I would recommend using wadding to add strength to your brooch design

Your Tutor
Jessica Grady is an award winning embroidery artist and textile designer from West Yorkshire. She is also a member of exhibiting group Art Textiles: Made in Britain.
Her work is a colourful and creative exploration of hand stitch and mixed media, and she utilises waste and recycled materials, which are transformed into exciting embellishments. Jessica’s work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe and Asia, and she shares her skills across the UK and beyond through workshops and lectures.
She teaches in schools, universities, for charities, festivals and private groups, as well as online classes. She is a big believer that textiles and hand stitch is an accessible medium that all ages and abilities can enjoy, and there is no wrong way to begin and get creative!
