About this event
Watch this online workshop Piecing and Patching African Style with Mary Sleigh.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about some traditional African textile construction techniques using examples from Mary’s collection. This is an opportunity to see and use original sources as inspiration to develop ideas for stitching and embellishment. Those taking part will make some samples and record ideas for further development with an emphasis on innovation.
The recording is not downloadable and will be available for viewing for at least one month after registration.
We are running a number of short workshops and demonstrations which are £2.99 for members and between £10 and £15 for non-members. As well as upcoming events, members can also access recordings of past workshops at a reduced price, to watch at their leisure.

Your Tutor
Mary Sleigh's love of fabric and thread started as a child and developed during her career in primary education and then for many years as a Tutor and External Verifier for City & Guilds textile courses. Mary is passionate that our textile heritage and those of other cultures should be celebrated and welcomes opportunities to tutor, mentor and share experiences with those wishing to extend their practice.
Opportunities to travel, study and absorb local cultures have taken her to many regions of southern Africa and India. Traditional textile techniques are the inspiration for her own work and many workshops.
She now enjoys the freedom, time and challenge of pursuing her own creative work and continues to be an active member of the Textile Study Group and Embroiderers' Guild.
