We are thrilled to welcome renowned biographer Charles Moore here at Hatchards this evening to discuss the new single-volume edition of Margaret Thatcher: The Authorized Biography marking the centenary of her birth.
Combining the insights of the original three volumes of biography, Charles Moore creates a comprehensive portrait of one of the most influential figures of her age, illuminating the complexities of Thatcher’s character – her determination, boldness and the challenges she faced as a woman in a male-dominated political world - but not uncritically. He shows what was remarkable about her and what was infuriating, her extraordinary strengths and sometimes surprising vulnerability.
In conversation with historian Flora Fraser, Chair of the Elizabeth Longford Prize for Historical Biography and author of, amongst other books George & Martha Washington: A Revolutionary Marriage and most recently, Pretty Young Rebel: The Life of Flora Macdonald, Charles reflects on Thatcher’s rise to power and her revolutionary eleven and a half years as Prime Minister, the political impact of the Falklands crisis, her economic battles and her dramatic final days in office.
We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be an evening of fascinating insights.
