Description

Join local author Margaret Gosley for a talk and Q&A about her book 'On the Cusp'. Part of our Alfreton Local History Day.

" The title of my memoir reflects where I have always lived; on the changing edge of things. I came into the world at a time of great uncertainty; conceived in the early months of 1939 and born in November just after the outbreak of World War II. So I am of the generation that stands astride two very different times. I was formed and brought up to the values of the rigidly conforming fifties but became an adult throughout the creative and liberating sixties. I also came to have two sets of parents, one genetic and one adopted and for an adopted child both sets of parents are important. Even if you never know or care to know the first set, they are stitched into the fabric of your being. "- Margaret Gosley

Both a memoir and a social history 'On the Cusp' explores themes of identity, relationships, family history and social change. The author combines her own voice with the voice of her birth mother whose notebooks she inherited.

Margaret Gosley was born in Yorkshire and given away as a baby to be raised in the South. She lived in Hackney, South East London and worked as a Librarian before moving to Alfreton and reinventing herself as an artist. To her surprise she found that she had returned to her roots, counting a Pentrich Martyr amongst her ancestors.

Copies of Margaret's book will be available for sale and signing.
