Description

How Will It Work?

On your feet! Feeling stuck to your script? Bound by table work? This two workshop series will explore different ways of unlocking text on your feet. Working on a number of scenes from a new play, we will combine a thorough and detailed approach to script work, with physical, playful exercises that get you using your body.

The workshop will cover:

  • basic text work and script analysis
  • physical games and exercises to explore text and intention on your own or with another actor
  • early stage character development and improvisation

About Ed

Ed trained on the MA in Theatre Directing at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Since graduating he has worked as an assistant director in the West End, at the RSC and regionally. Edward spent a year working as associate director to Jamie Lloyd on his Trafalgar Transformed Season (Macbeth, The Hothouse, The Pride). Alongside the season he directed two Pinter shorts starring Joanna Lumley and Andrew Scott and the UK tour of The Pride with Mat Horne.

Ed’s own work has been seen recently at the Unicorn, the Arcola, Shoreditch Town Hall, Vault Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe where he directed stand-up comedian Joe Lycett’s Fosters Comedy Award nominated show, Some Lycett Hot and the world premiere of Rob Hayes’ Awkward Conversations with Animals I’ve F*cked. He was recently named as one of the Old Vic 12, a group of twelve emerging creatives attached to the theatre for a year under incoming artistic director, Matthew Warchus.
