ONCE IN A LIFETIME: GROUNDBREAKING MUSIC BUSINESS AND LAW EVENT AT WESTMINSTER LAW SCHOOL

The Centre for the Study of Law, Society and Popular Culture are delighted to announce a unique event to take place on 18th March 2015. The event is entitled "ONCE IN A LIFETIME: A MOCK NEGOTIATION OF THE SALE AND PURCHASE OF A MUSIC PUBLISHING COMPANY" and is the brainchild of Robert Allan, Research Fellow of the Centre and long time collaborator with Westminster Law School.

Whilst more commonly accredited as the classic first single from the Talking Heads’ album ‘Remain in Light’, this event is also billed as ‘Once in a Lifetime’; such is the status of the panel which Robert has gathered together. This panel is really ‘The Dream Team’ - it is inconceivable that a more prestigious and knowledgeable team could have been assembled. All of the participants have worked with each other over many years on transactions totalling billions of dollars, and Westminster Law School is thrilled to be able to host them for this groundbreaking event

The panelists are, in order of appearance

Fred Wistow, was formerly Executive Vice President and Chief General Counsel of Time Warner’s Music Group.

Evan Medow was originally a US attorney and then, having been General Counsel at A &M’s publishing division, became the CEO of Windswept Pacific Music.

Chris Ancliff is General Counsel (International) Warner Music Group) and was formerly Chief General Counsel at EMI.

John Frankenheimer is the current co-chair at the prestigious law firm of Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles and is the doyen of music corporate practitioners.

Charles Bradbrook is a senior partner at the accountancy practice SRLV and was formally head of the media practice of Deloittes.

Finally, Robert Allan can justifiably lay claim to being one of the very first, if not the first, entertainment lawyers in the UK with a substantial client list and wealth of experience, particularly on this topic.

This truly is a ‘do not miss’ event. It takes place in The Portland Hall at Westminster Law Schools’ historic Little Titchfield street site, the venue for many concerts in the 1960s and 1970s. It was the scene of Jimi Hendrix’s first appearance on stage with Cream in 1966 and the site where Pink Floyd conducted early practice session.
