About this event

  • 8 hours

Are you looking to meet and collaborate with other artists? Are you new to the music scene and want to get some studio experience? Do you have backlog of half finished songs that you want to get finished and demo'd? Then this songwriting camp is perfect for you!

This time around you will have the opppertunity to meet the other artsits in the Inscape community through our Artist Networking Night the following evening (SATURDAY 10th AUGUST 7-11pm) - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/music-networking-night-in-hackney-wick-tickets-902480763257?aff=oddtdtcreator

Here's what you will get from the camp:

  • Learning to write collectively to actual industry or artsits briefs.
  • Break down poetry and melody in the session to enhance your writing.
  • Learn simple produciton skills by working side by side with Alex our in-house producer.
  • Learn vocal performance tips and tricks with our in-house vocal producer Shell.
  • Listening to music more deeply and getting inspired.
  • Get confidence writing if you don't play an instrument.
  • Great for artists wanting to demo songs without committing to a full production.
  • Great for artsits who want to diversify their music through other writers.
  • Get added to our Inscape artist Whats App network.

Our aim is to have you walk away from this camp with a new community of local artsits and writers, the confidence to hold your own in a songwriting space as well as new ways to access your own creativity.

Song writing camps require you to take a step out of your comfort zone, they require you to fight or fly, and this is often where you can find the most creative and unfiltered version of yourself. And, if that sounds terrifying, then it’s probably exactly what you need.

Who the camp is for:

  • Songwriters who want to build confidence with collaboration
  • New artists who want to get experience in a music studio
  • Experienced artists who want to develop their songwriting skills to elevate their music
  • Writers who have a backlog of creativity but don't know what to do next
  • Artists and musicians wanting to network with their local music community
  • Vocalists looking to develop their toplining skills

Who you'll be working with

With 10 years experience working in the music industry from the creative heart of East London, Hackney Wick, Michelle and Alex are now wanting to share their knowledge with a wider community of artsits. Having graduated from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in 2015 they are becoming increasingly aware or how difficult it can be for artists who don't study music to learn and collaborate. Hense the development of their first writing camp where their aim is to pass down their knowledge and skills in an open, inculsive and creative environment.

Testimonals

Inspiring and supportive. I learnt so much, felt comfortable as it was a small group, the studio was such a great space to be in. Alex and Shell were both so knowledgeable and amazing teachers.

----------

I would 100% recommend this camp to anyone creative. From musicians wanting to work on songwriting to anyone interested, because it gets. You to see music in a different way, helps with coming up with creative ideas, and gets you out of your comfort zone to produce an outcome you’re proud of .

----------

Definitely. It felt amazing to write with other people and merge ideas. I feel like I can write a song now anytime instead of just when inspired. I felt we were treated like professionals instead of (in my case) an amateur and that increased my confidence hugely and made me feel part of the musician world instead of someone outside looking in.

----------

It was a chance to focus and hone in on our songwriting skills, an aspect of music creation that can be often overlooked for me as a producer primarily. I really appreciated expertise from both Dop and Shell as they combine their production knowledge with vocal storytelling in a complimentary way every musician should really have under their belt.

----------

The camp inspired me to write more haiku poems , to really break down a moment in time and tell a story. I also now have a. Stronger sense of what structure is within music, and that I shouldn’t get too hung up on it being perfect. I’ve also taken on using loops from splice as a starting place for my song to leap frog off from.

Organised by

The Inscape is an independently run music studio here in the heart of Hackney Wick. The word 'Inscape' is defined as 'the unique inner nature of a person or object as shown in a work of art, especially a poem.' This is what makes us tick: bringing the inner-landscape of an artist to the surface and helping them mould that into something tangible, through music production.

As producers and artists ourselves we care holistically about music as an art form and we want to see the world of music transformed into a more sustainable, and healthy environment. We specialises in working with emerging artists, to not only create industry standard commercial music and content, but also to bring art back in to a world that has been industrialised past its original intent.
