One Life Left's Marioke @ GDC
Event Information
Description
THIS IS REAL: One Life Left is throwing an AMAZING PARTY, bringing Marioke to the West Coast for its first ever headline show.
We're One Life Left, Britain's "favourite" videogame radio show and GDC's official podcast. We'll be broadcasting live from conference and we'd love you to be part of that. Get in touch! But more importantly we'd love to see you on Thursday night having the very best time of your life at Marioke.
Marioke is karaoke but with a twist: all the lyrics have been rewritten to be about videogames. So Prince's "Purple Rain" becomes "Heavy Rain", Lionel Richie's "Hello" is a tribute to a fifteen-year-old Bungie game, and Pulp's "Common People" is a touching tale of a PC gamer who tries to be something he's not. In the three years since we last made it out to the West Coast we've upped our stupid joke song library from 40 to over 150, largely thanks to a monthly residency at London's wonderful Loading Bar. And now we're hoping a new audience will join us to sing as many of them as we can on one glorious evening.
You want examples? We got 'em*:
Common People / Console People
So to sum up: we've booked a karaoke lounge in the middle of a city 5000 miles from home, we've got it all night, and we're intent on having the best time of our lives. We want you to be there too.
Additional facts, a sort of FAQ-without-Qs:
- You don't have to sing on stage -- most people just shout along from the crowd -- but if you do we'll be there to back you up if you need it
- Sign-ups will start as soon as the doors open, so get there early
- This is a 21+ event with a cash bar. The ticket price is to cover our costs so if we manage to find a sponsor we'll work out what to do with the leftover money (at our Christmas Party it goes behind the bar)
- On that subject: we're looking for sponsors so if you have a #company or a #brand or just like the idea of exchanging money for our eternal love, please get in touch
- There'll be plenty of time for drinking and #networking, if that's your thing?
That's it. We'll see you there? We'll see you there.
* Two of them. There are 178 surprises waiting for you on the night.
