Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

A stimulating afternoon workshop with Jasper Fforde, where we will explore the processes, and the difficulties, of creating books that work for publishers and film-makers as well as their readers. How do you create a believable world and characters? What makes a book strong enough for readers to want more, or film makers to believe it will work well on the screen? Come and find out how each step you take leads on to the next one...

Jasper Fforde is a British novelist. Fforde's first novel, The Eyre Affair, was published in 2001, the first in a series of books about literary detective, Thursday Next. He has also written two books in the Nursery Crime series, The Big Over Easy and The Fourth Bear, in which DCI Jack Spratt and Sergeant Mary Mary work for the Nursery Crime Division in Reading, investigating crimes within the world of nursery rhymes. More recently, Jasper has written Shades of Grey, set in the long distant future in a society dominated in every way by visual colour. He has also written four books in the The Last Dragonslayer series, aimed at children, with the title book being made into a movie, shown as Sky TV’s Christmas Day Special. Fforde's books contain a profusion of literary allusions and wordplay, tightly scripted plots, and playfulness with the conventions of traditional genres. His works usually contain elements of metafiction, parody, and fantasy.
