About this Workshop

This workshop explores the integration of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, and moral injury. It examines how EMDR’s Adaptive Information Processing model can be enhanced through compassion-based approaches that target shame, guilt, and moral pain, helping restore affiliative safety and emotional regulation. The workshop also considers the psychological impact of unkindness and toxic work environments as forms of systemic and moral trauma, highlighting how compassion and EMDR can jointly address both individual and organisational wounds. Through theoretical input, experiential exercises, and reflective dialogue, participants will deepen their understanding of how compassion-informed EMDR practice supports the movement from survival and recovery towards flourishing, meaning, and thriving, through a lens of compassionate leadership.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  1. Understand the theoretical and neurobiological intersections between EMDR (AIP model) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (three-system model).
  2. Apply compassion-focused principles to EMDR trauma regulation and confrontation phases, including moral-injury repair.
  3. Examine “unkindness” and toxic systems as moral and organisational traumas.
  4. Reflect on pathways from recovery to flourishing and thriving with a focus on compassionate leadership
