Event description
Join us to learn more about self harm and suicide in the context of young people - how can we help, and what are brief interventions?

About this Event

*This course is running to mark the last week of our Conference for those wanting to know more around CYP self harm and suicide.

LIVE ONLINE TRAINING via Zoom

This evidence-based, CPD-accredited course is designed to improve working practice, knowledge and skills by exploring the key issues associated with self harm and suicidality in young people, looking at national and local policy, best practice, guidance, and brief interventions for working with young people at risk of self harm and suicide, improving skills to identify and assess for risk, and identifying ways to reduce stigma and discrimination.

The course uses a variety of interactive tools to build delegates' confidence in responding to young people who harm themselves, by understanding the influences and impact on the health, recovery and wellbeing of those who self harm and may be at risk of suicide.

Level 2 (intermediate) training is suitable for professionals including frontline community staff whose role involves supporting young people (of any age). These professionals may come into contact with those in distress or with mental ill health, but this is not their primary role, e.g. housing support, teaching staff, community support workers.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and their relationship to self harm and suicide risk for adolescents
  • Understand warning signs and symptoms of emotional distress, self harm, and suicidal crisis
  • Understand how to effectively respond to children and young people who are using self harm and expressing suicidal thoughts
  • Establish evidence-based brief interventions and safety plans
