Saturday 7th May, 10:30am-12pm :

In “La place”, Annie Ernaux tells the life story of her father’s ambition, himself a small trader, for her to succeed in life. But while his wish comes true, the gap between them increases as she experiences a rise in social status amongst intellectuals.

Saturday 11th June, 10:30am-12pm :

Honoré de Balzac's famous novel "Le Père Goriot" takes place in the Parisian atmosphere of the 19th century. Goriot is a rich man so devoted to his beloved daughters Anastasie and Delphine that he is even willing to risk ruin for their happiness. Balzac explores the question: how far should a parent’s love go?

This book club will allow you to better understand Balzac before the screening of "Lost Illusions" on the 14th of June at The Maison Francaise d'Oxford.

Saturday 2nd July, 10:30am-12pm :

"Les roses fauves" written by Carole Martinez is a poetic novel featuring Lola, a Breton woman who inherits the "hearts" of her Andalusian ancestors, a tradition where secrets are hidden in a heart-shaped cushion to be passed it on to the next generation. Lola is forbidden to open them, but one day one of them breaks...
