The Green Mingle is Bristol Green Capital Partnership’s monthly networking event, offering individuals and organisations the opportunity to meet in an informal setting, make connections, share ideas and learn about innovative projects and initiatives in Bristol.

This month we’ll be hearing from the University of the West of England's Tales of Care and Repair project and exploring how can we foster repair cultures in Bristol.

How can a city become more repair-orientated? What does this mean? Is it possible to foster new ways of thinking about how we repair the objects that we consume and use every day on a city level? Can we co-construct a city wide repair-mind set and what form would a "Repair and Care Declaration" for Bristol take?

Tales of Care and Repair

Tales of Care and Repair is a programme of work that gathers stories on the repair of everyday objects from India, UK and Brazil. Running from August - November 2021 the programme takes the form of a repository of ‘stories’ of everyday repaired objects, alongside a series of conversations and workshops that focuses on co-constructing local “Care and Repair Declarations”.

To generate the stories the project aims to collect 1000 images of everyday repaired objects, which people can upload to the Tales of Care and Repair website and tag with details about the repair. This will generate characteristics about the costs, motivations and reasons for repairing, as well as spotlight the objects, style and aesthetic of repair across the different locations. Complementing this repository each declaration will act as a means towards collectively reimagine and move towards more restorative futures.

This special edition of the Green Mingle will look towards how we can co-create such declarations and intentions with the Bristol Green Capital Partnership network.
