Event description
Online MHFA England Mental Health First Aider 2 Day Certification Training Workshop (Adult)

About this Event

"Colin's delivery of this very difficult topic was profound and I found that what I learnt will also be beneficial to myself and friends and family. The course structure and blended delivery works during this current outbreak but I believe it will (also) be beneficial for the future as it makes the material more accessible to others. The manual and workbook are excellent resources and I can see myself referring back to them regularly. Many thanks for this overall fantastic experience!”

"Colin was an incredible facilitator, who built a strong rapport with the team by sharing his personal experience, story, insights and knowledge. I have been involved with raising awareness and discussion about Mental Health for some years, yet I learned many new things in 2 days, and learned how to respond appropriately and effectively in a Mental-Health crisis. I strongly recommend to anyone to take up the course, no matter what their role or industry is..."

Would you know how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue, or where to go for support with your own mental health?

Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year, and more than one in seven people report experiencing mental health problems in the workplace.

We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) will teach you how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. It won’t teach you to be a therapist, but you will learn to listen, reassure and respond, perhaps in a crisis – and even potentially prevent a crisis.

You will learn to recognise the warning signs of mental ill health, and you will develop the skills to confidently approach and support someone whilst keeping yourself safe. You will learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery, or for successful management of their symptoms. You will also gain an understanding of how to support positive well-being, and how to tackle stigma in the world around you.

The training will be delivered across four manageable sessions - each of which is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan. This course is a blend of live training sessions and self-learning activities, and upon completion you will be a certified MHFA England Mental Health First Aider.

For the online delivery of this invaluable training, there is a degree of "individual learning" to be completed in advance of each live session. Please note that you are required to complete the individual learning before attending each live session.

"Absolutely brilliant instructor and course content, highly recommend the MHFA training! Really patient and informative with a safe space to discuss hypothetical and personal instances of mental health. The reflective tasks and course manual were really good at processing the content and transferring the information to the long term memory. Colin had a fantastic mix of being approachable, speaking from experience and inserting humour where appropriate. This made very heavy topics more manageable and 'enjoyable' to learn about. I would definitely take more of his courses and more courses that MHFA England offer. I cannot think of anything that would have made the experience even better, barring being able to attend in person (so long as social distancing could be observed).Thank you so much MHFA England and particularly Colin!”

After dedicating the best part of 30 years to corporate leadership roles, I have personally experienced just how stress is intricately interwoven with our physical, and mental health - a lesson which was irrevocably reinforced when I lost my father to suicide just a few years ago...

Colin Symington-Bailey - an MHFA England Instructor member, accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health - was named "Mental Health Professional of the Year", 2020, "The UK's Most Trusted in Mental Healthcare Services" in The Global Insight Business Awards, 2019, and the winner of "Excellence in Mental Health Coaching" in The Corporate LiveWire Innovation and Excellence Awards, 2019.

(To receive your certification as a Mental Health First Aider, all four sessions - and individual learning activities - must be completed in full. Please note also that to attend the workshop, you must be 16 years of age - or older. Thank you for your understanding.)

I look forward to "seeing" you on Monday, the 7th of December...

There is no health without mental health.
