Rise of the Resistance: Precision AMR PPI and Public Engagement
Precision AMR PPI was coordinated by playwright Nicola Baldwin, Visiting Creative Fellow at UCL IAS, in partnership with the Nosocomial Project, a theatre and events collaborative of Healthcare Scientists and artists set-up by Nicola Baldwin and Dr Elaine Cloutman-Green, Lead Clinical Scientist at GOSH. Sue Lee was lay advisor. Activities included workshops, a ‘mini-thesis’ challenge for Precision AMR researchers, artist commissions and events, and two public festivals: Rise of the Resistance 1 (online) in June; Rise of the Resistance 2, live and livestreamed at Bloomsbury Theatre in September to commemorate the discovery of penicillin.

On 3 September 2021, Rise of the Resistance celebrated the 93rd birthday of antibiotics with a theatrical conversation between Healthcare Scientists, Precision AMR researchers, artists, and patients on the looming health crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). What can we learn from microbes about innovation and cooperation? What can we learn from each other by sharing expertise and experience? What is AMR and what can we do about it?
