Event description

Description

Bringing the latest in Online Safety to your doorstep.

The UK Safer Internet Centre are delivering a FREE 2 hour Online Safety update in a venue near you. Open to all who work with children and young people, this event will give you the latest in research, legislation, technology, tools and resources along with exclusive access to the presentation and resource materials.

Safety online is constantly changing and the purpose of Online Safety Live events is to provide access to this information, right on people’s doorsteps. We understand that everyone is really busy and the feedback has been clear that getting significant time away from work is a challenge – this is the reason that we organised these events as short briefing sessions. This provides this vital information, critically supplemented with access to so much more detail to review at a later date. The team will also be available to answer any of your online safety queries or questions. In large part that is why we’ve so far welcomed over 16,000 delegates over the recent few years to these events.

Hacking online hate through social and emotional learning

Also available for this session - an EXCLUSIVE 30min introduction to SELMA – our programme tackling the problem of online hate speech by promoting mutual awareness, tolerance, and respect.
If you work with young people and want to address the issue of online hate speech this brief session is a must for you.

The SELMA project is based upon a Social and Emotional Learning approach to empower young people to become agents of change; helps them to better understand the phenomenon of online hate, and provides them with tools and strategies to act and make a difference. SELMA is aimed at young people (age 11-16) and does not intend to police "bad" online behaviour; rather, it will nurture an environment where young people feel empowered to take action. During this short introduction we will provide an overview of the project, show some of the resources in development and provide delegates with exclusive early access to the toolkit.

The extra session is not mandatory; you will be given the choice as to whether you want to stay on the day. If you are interested in Hacking Hate, reducing online hate speech, and improving emotional literacy for your students, this is a must-see project. We hope you can join us.
