About this Event

Online SocialPrescriberPlus™

Advanced Online Training Programme for Social Prescribers, Link Workers, Care Coordinators and Health and Wellbeing Coaches

Split Session:

Module 1 - Wednesday 22nd July 09.30 - 12.30pm

Module 2 - Thursday 23rd July 1.30 - 4.30pm

Who Should Attend?

  • The one and a half day SocialPrescriberPlus course is ideal for:Individuals wishing to train as Social Prescribers, Link Workers, Care Coordinators or Health & Wellbeing Coaches prior to applying for a role with an existing community Social Prescribing scheme, or for a Social Prescriber team role in a Primary Care Network or GP Practice.
  • Members of existing Social Prescribing schemes wishing to enhance their skills and learn the latest techniques for Active Listening, Motivational Interviewing and Health Coaching

What Will I Learn? The SocialPrescriberPlus™ Programme comprises 3 half day modules. For this workshop, Module 1 takes place on one day and Module 2 on the following day. The third module normally takes place 6 - 8 weeks after the delegates take up their new role, but can be taken anytime in the following 12 months depending on circumstances.

The intensive online workshop is delivered via the Zoom online video conferencing platform. It is designed to provide delegates with all the techniques and approaches needed to allow them to commence work as a Social Prescriber in a GP surgery or a community based Social Prescribing scheme.

Recently enhanced to cover telephone techniques and consultations in the era of coronavirus, the workshop is unashamedly practical in nature. It provides lots of opportunities to practice Active Listening and Motivational Interviewing in a safe and supportive environment, and discusses the day to day practicalities of joining and working with a PCN or Practice and building relationships with external community groups and the voluntary sector.

The workshop covers the essential Social Prescriber skills of Active Listening, Motivational Interviewing, Health Coaching and Relationship Building. With a new focus on telephone consultations with patients, it also introduces delegates to a range of referral, coaching, evaluation and personalised-care planning tools and templates - essential to ensuring the Social Prescriber can successfully master the day to day practicalities of working within a GP Practice or voluntary based Social Prescribing scheme.

Module 3 takes place around 6 - 8 weeks after the delegates have started their new role, and the date is agreed between the Link Worker and DNA Insight. Module 3 is an Active Learning, Reflective Practice and Networking session. In a facilitated online learning environment, delegates are invited to present anonymised but real life situations and case studies they have encountered since being trained and which have presented a challenge in their new role. The assembled delegates discuss the challenge and, through a structured and facilitated process, provide feedback and suggestions to help the delegate with the challenge. It is an immensely powerful process and is designed to help delegates with their own challenges, as well as to provide a professional networking forum that will provide regular opportunities for the delegates to meet and discuss current topics and issues.

Ongoing Support

As with all of our courses, delegates receive access to 12 months of 24/7 telephone support following the training, together with access to all the materials used and ongoing collaboration and networking tools, allowing them to keep up to date with the latest Social Prescribing developments and to build lasting personal and professional relationships, and networks with colleagues.

Coronavirus

The situation around the coronavirus crisis is evolving rapidly, and the role of Social Prescribers is changing from a proactive one to a reactive one, in which most if not all consultations are done over the phone. As a result, the workshop provides considerable guidance on telephone techniques. It will also bring you bang up to date on the latest situation and share the guidance and advice provided to PCNs and Social Prescribers from the NHS Personalised Care and Social Prescribing teams.
