Event description
A selection from Alan's photo archive documenting Hackney in the 70s & 80s. A personal view of our recent past: places, events and people

About this Event

Local photographer Alan Denney takes a trip down the A10 to map the changes across 40+ years. Alan documents the impact on the physical and social landscape made by gentrification, protest, public investment and privatisation. He recalls some of the key events that have left their mark on north Hackney today.

The specially filmed conversation with Hackney Society Trustee Wendy Forrest will be screened exclusively for attendees at this event and will be followed by an opportunity to ask Alan questions (either in advance or via the YouTube chat function).

Note, Alan is also involved with curating the Rio Cinema's Tape/Slide project - a cooperative photography project based in Dalston in the 1980s. Our IN CONVERSATION event covers Alan's own archive and not the Tape/Slide archive which is being covered in other talks.

The event will take place on YouTube. If you register (it's free), we'll send you a link a couple of days before the event. Whilst you do not need to log-in to YouTube (with a Google Account) to view the talk, if you wish to use the online chat facility to type questions on the night, you will need to be logged-in to YouTube with a Google account. Alternatively, if you have a question for Alan ahead of the event, please email us at events@hackneysociety.org.
