At the 900th anniversary, this talk explores the wreck of Barfleur 25th November 1120, when three hundred perished including the heir to the throne and many of the royal court. The presentation by Lester Hillman will focus on the shock and surprise, impacts on City institutions, (still visible today in the City landscape) and how the tragedy may have affected powerful individuals including Thomas Becket who perished himself 50 years later.
