What are online writing retreats?

Often the most challenging aspect of thesis writing, or any other writing for that matter, is finding the time and space to sit down and focus on doing the actual writing. A writing retreat is simply designated time and space away from your normal workplace where you can focus on writing and nothing else, within a structured session that provides set times for writing and regular breaks. During the period of Covid-19 we need to meet virtually, but we hope that the sessions can still provide structure and a degree of community support.

By meeting regularly we can gain mutual support through discussing our personal difficulties in writing in this current period

-  We can share good tips in writing practice

-   And the meetings can provide some peer accountability that will help our motivation and avoid common routes for procrastination.

Previous participants have said:

‘I found that without interruptions, my productivity went up.’

‘I have had trouble focussing on my work recently and feel that attending the workshops would make me set aside time for writing/planning my project.’

‘It enabled me to work better on my writing tasks as I had peers around me doing the same thing in a quiet and conducive environment.’

Single registration system: To manage this process, and make the arrangements easy for you and for us, we will use just one sign-up form in Eventbrite. By signing up to this list once, you will gain advance notification when new dates are planned for the retreats  and timely  reminders of each event. Two emails, a reminder the day before, and information to logon to the meet, will be sent for each event, and may be ignored if you do not wish to attend on that date.

This registration simply provides us with an email list to keep you informed of these events and you may choose whether to attend on a regular basis or once every few months.  We do not expect you to attend all events! If you no longer wish to receive these emails, please cancel your registration for this event on Eventbrite .
