ONS Local Workshop: Introducing NOMIS
Overview
ONS Local has been established by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to promote evidence-based decision-making at the local level. We aim to host insightful workshops which will provide practical, technical support to help users make the most of ONS and cross government data. Sinclair Sutherland is the head of NOMIS, a website which publishes statistics related to population, society and the labour market at national, regional and local levels. These include data from current and previous censuses.
ONS Local presents is delighted to host Sinclair Sutherland of the University of Durham, who together with his team, runs NOMIS. NOMIS is a service provided by ONS to house and deliver an extensive range of government statistical information on the UK labour market including Employment, Unemployment, Earnings and the Annual Population Survey. NOMIS also provides access to Census data.
In this session, Sinclair will introduce NOMIS, explain what data it covers and how it can be used in a variety of ways. The session will cover how to obtain area profiles as well as full data downloads. NOMIS gives you access to the most detailed and up-to-date statistics from official sources for local areas throughout the UK and as such this workshop, while open to everyone, should be of particular interest to anyone working with data at the local level.
The workshop will cover what data is available on NOMIS for all four nations of the United Kingdom.
