Oor Scotch Bard: Translating Robert Burns
Event Information
About this Event
Hailed as Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns' poetry can be complex to translate. How can we retain a strong Scottish national voice in French, for example? How can we overcome language difficulties before we even get to the trouble of translating poetic devices? Is it even possible to translate his work?
These are some of the questions we aim to discuss in Edinburgh University Translation Society's workshop. We will be providing an extract for you to try translate before hand, from which you can then bring your discussions to our event.
Don't speak a second language? Come along still and have a listen to our fascinating discussion!
This is a free event and will be held online via Zoom. The extract provided can be found on our Facebook event page and linked on Eventbrite, and the Zoom link will be e-mailed to you shortly prior to the event.
