Workshop Details:
This is an opportunity for Out of School leaders, educators, school partners supporting wrap-around initiatives and anyone passionate about creating calmer, more purposeful learning environments for children to come together and share their practice.
We have a guest speaker called Stephanie Bennett, co-founder of The Curiosity Approach and we are excited to invite you to an engaging, practical online training session designed specifically for educators overseeing and delivering out-of-school clubs and after-school care programs.
Let’s come together to reimagine spaces that empower children to play, explore, and belong.
Aims of the workshop: What this session will cover
- WHY we need to create purposeful learning environments for after-school children. Acknowledge how busy, fast-paced schedules shape children’s experiences and explore practical ways to help children feel calm, grounded, relaxed, and have opportunities to simply be.
- WHAT we need to do instead of table top tasks, learn how to foster autonomy and independence so children take ownership of their learning and play.
- HOW to create inspirational play spaces. Practical ideas for setting up play areas that invite exploration and creativity. Pack-away settings that are easy to set up, with strategies for arranging the environment and materials. Visual cues, predictable routines, and accessible resources that help children thrive.
Why this matters
Modern childhoods are often over-scheduled, fast-paced, and directed. As educators, we have a powerful opportunity to counterbalance that by offering environments where children can simply ’BE’ themselves, exploring at their own pace, building friendships, and developing a sense of belonging.
When children experience slower, purposeful moments in safe, well-designed spaces, they learn to regulate their emotions, think creatively, and collaborate more effectively. They also feel seen, valued, and connected to their peers and communities.
