About this event

Category Is: Queer Writing Group

Delivered in partnership with Open Book Reading, we’ll be reading stories and poems aloud and using them to create our own writing in a gentle, guided session with writer Michael Lee Richardson.

Absolutely no experience required! Just a willingness to have a go in a safe and affirmative setting.

Who

Anyone from the LGBTQIA+ community aged 18+ living in or visiting Glasgow Southside is welcome to join us.

Spaces are limited so please register in advance via Eventbrite. The capacity of this event is 12 people to allow for social distancing during the session.

Where

Category Is Books, 34 Allison St, Glasgow G42 8NN

When

The last Wednesday of the month, 6-7:30pm

Access

The shop is level-access for wheelchair users. We try to make sure that the main floor area of the shop always has at least 100cm between furniture items so that customers can move around easily. Most things are on castors so please let us know if you need anything changed.

Category Is is co-owned by a wonderful autistic human, so we have designed things to be as autism-friendly as possible.

There is no working bathroom in the shop. The closest accessible toilets are at The Bungo or Tramway.

Open Book aims to be a safe space for all our participants and Lead Readers. This means our groups should be a place in which everyone feels welcome, respected and comfortable. We ask that you follow CARE (confidentiality, attention, respect, enjoy) and the Safe Spaces Framework each time you join a session. You can read the Space Spaces Framework here.

No experience necessary, ages 18+

Please note that by supplying your email address you agree to be contacted via email for evaluative purposes.

Does Open Book offer support to attend sessions?

Organised by

We organise and run weekly shared reading sessions for a diverse range of community and public participants across Scotland. Part of a book and a poem are read aloud during these relaxed and informal sessions, with an Open Book Lead Reader on hand to help guide the discussion. We regularly run creative writing sessions for our readers, using the material the group is reading as inspiration to create new writing.
