Emerging ways in which new media technology can aid the development of ‘hyperlocal’ and/or ‘community journalism’ has gained traction, positioned as a potentially sustainable solution for existing political, social and economic challenges. This talk will present emerging models presented as ‘community journalism’ within this and a Scottish context. Drawing on her research-practice of a citizen journalism facilitator in community projects around Edinburgh to illustrate and compare emergent models, and concluding with the need to highlight and extend the debate beyond the current hyperlocal news platform trend.
