About this Event
• Are you aged between 16-24 years? Unemployed? Claiming Universal Credit?
• Keen to make your first step onto the career ladder in the arts and cultural sector or, secure paid work experience in the arts in Gloucestershire?
• Or just curious, and want to find out more about what really happens behind closed doors in the arts?
As part of the new Kickstart scheme, 7 organisations working in the creative industries are opening their virtual doors, giving young people aged 16-24 the chance to meet those working behind some of Gloucestershire’s thriving arts venues.
Explore what goes on behind the scenes, find out about who works there and what it takes to join the team. This is your chance to find out about local paid opportunities through Kickstart, get careers advice directly from industry professionals and ask any questions.
This session will explore the opportunity with:
Prema
Prema is is a small, independent arts centre based in the village of Uley, between Dursley and Stroud. Throughout the year, this busy venue promotes a full programme of workshops, classes, happenings, theatre and live music as well as a residency programme in which we support makers working in studios and creative practitioners in devising and rehearsing original live work which then is toured throughout the country. The arts centre is almost 50 years old although it’s building (a beautiful converted Georgian chapel) clocks up 200 years in 2021. Prema is renowned as a family-friendly venue with a playful and warmly encouraging approach to helping everyone unlock their creative potential. It’s therefore no surprise that over 75,000 engage with our programme every year.
The team is small - we add up to about 2.5 people working in the admin office but we have 3 on-site makers working from their studios and a team of warm, lovely colleagues who run Vestry cafe for part of the week.
We’re looking for 4 young people to work with us as:
Arts Education Interns - will work closely alongside our Education Officer in overseeing the smooth running of the participatory arts programme of weekly classes, weekend and evening workshops and the “happenings” which take place at weekends and during the school holidays.
Arts Marketing Interns - You will be preparing and “broadcasting” news items, building visual stories and helping to communicate the various strands of our work to the world around us.
Future Open Doors to book on to:
Gloucester Culture Trust - Wednesday 31st March from 11.00am - 12.00noon
The Roses Theatre - Wednesday 31st March from 2.00 – 3.00pm
All the Open Doors events will take place prior to the closing dates for the Kickstart opportunities highlighted .
