The is the first event of Demsoc's Open EU program.
This event will be where citizens and the third sector come together to describe, debate and collaborate on their preferred approaches to interacting with policymakers at the European level and have an influence in how policy is made.
Participants will be invited to talk about occasions when they have attempted to have an influence on policy in the past, difficulties they faced and what can be improved, as well as explaining whether or not the feel open policymaking is necessary in specific areas, everywhere or nowhere in the myriad policy areas covered by the EU.
Who should have a say? Currently lobbying in the EU locks out anyone who is not highly embedded in the system and with resources to match. Who do citizens and the third sector in Edinburgh think should be involved in shaping EU policy? How could this be achieved?
During this evening’s event we will be creating a shared vision of what participants want and need from an open process and what they think the Commission’s goals should be for future policy making processes.
