Event description

Description

Join Winchester Action on Climate Change members for one of three specials events this Heritage Open Days - Talk to the owners about living in this recently built fully certified Passivhaus.

Passivhaus is an international energy performance standard. The definition of Passivhaus is driven by air quality and comfort: "A Passivhaus is a building in which thermal comfort can be achieved solely by post-heating or post-cooling the fresh air flow required for a good indoor air quality, without the need for additional recirculation of air." - Passivhaus Institut. The heat losses of the building are reduced so much that it hardly needs any heating at all. Passive heat sources like the sun, human occupants, household appliances and the heat from the extract air cover a large part of the heating demand.

The house has MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) which provides fresh filtered air into the building whilst retaining most of the energy that has already been used in heating the building. Good insulation, an air-tight membrane, solar water heating and solar panels keep energy use low, while maintaining the house between 18 and 21 degrees C.

The time slot you select is your arrival time at this Open Greener House event. You can arrive and start your tour anytime in the 30minute slot you select at time of booking. Please note only 12 people will fit into the house at a time

The open house is suitable for older, interested children.
