Event description

Description

South Bank Tower is an exciting new landmark for Southwark. Occupying a prominent positon on the South Bank on Stamford Street, the building comprises of a 41-storey tower and adjoining podium building, between them home to 193 new homes, over 256,000 sq. ft. of office and retail space as well as public realm on ground level.

South Bank Tower is the ambitious redevelopment of King’s Reach Tower - a 1970s-building designed by Richard Seifert, the renowned architect behind some of London’s most distinctive architectural landmarks, including Centre Point and Tower 42.

The original building, the former HQ of publishing giants IPC Media, has since been transformed by one of the world’s leading architecture firms, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), responsible for several world-renowned buildings including The Pinnacle and The Heron Tower in London and the Shanghai World Financial Centre.

CIT, the independent real estate firm behind the development, has reimagined this icon and with it, brought life back into the disused office building. Works began on the scheme in 2013 and finished last year, resulting in an innovative, distinctive glass-clad landmark for the South Bank.

Open House London 2017 presents the first ever opportunity for the public to step inside the 41-storey building and experience its transformation. Visitors will have access to a spectacular 39th floor viewing gallery with far-reaching views across London and a specially-commissioned design installation, Mercury, by award-winning architecture and design pratice, Design Haus Liberty - the first major installation for the firm.
