Open House London at the Royal College of Physicians
Sun 18 September 2016, 10:00 – 11:00 BST
Join Open House London's city-wide celebrations and explore the Royal College of Physicians' Grade I listed building, an acclaimed modernist masterpiece and one of London’s most important and provocative examples of post-war architecture.
Explore 500 years of medical history, experience historical and ceremonial spaces, consult an ancient library, see a stunning portrait-lined marble staircase hall, and enter a secret 17th-century oak panelled room – all set inside a radically modern concrete and glass building.
Designed by Sir Denis Lasdun (1914–2001), the building has been the home of the Royal College of Physicians since 1964. It sits alongside the elegant 19th-century terraces of Regent’s Park and earned Lasdun the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Trustees Medal, for a design considered to be ‘the best architecture of its time anywhere in the world’.
Entrance is by pre-booked tours only.
Hour long professionally-led tours will run every 30 minutes throughout the day on Sunday 18 September, between 10am–5pm.
