Open Lecture - Cognitive Stimulation Group: An exploration of a successful intervention with people with Huntington's Disease
Presenters: Cognitive Stimulation Group, Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability
This open lecture will introduce a cognitive stimulation group trialled with people with Huntington`s disease (HD) at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. The approach has become more commonly used in dementia settings and has been evidenced to be beneficial in terms of cognitive abilities and quality of life. Therefore, our aim was to determine if it could be applied to HD clients.
The lecture will provide an overview of HD and the cognitive stimulation group intervention which is creatively led by the multidisciplinary team. It will discuss the methods, resources and practicalities of facilitating the group. The content of the sessions will be described, responses of the patients outlined and the effectiveness of the programme reviewed.
