Description

Open Lecture: Humanising Care; the challenges and opportunities. A Nurses Perspective

Presenters: Cripsina Lot-Thomas SSN Chatsworth & Stephanie Mackay Sister Jack Emerson Centre, Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

We have seen extensive improvement in medical and nursing care over the years and yet there is unease about the most vital characteristic of any health sector; how patients are ultimately being treated.

This is not in relation to medical interventions but goes to the very core of how we talk about, think about and treat those most vulnerable in our care.

This presentation will explore how nurses can humanise care, citing the challenges and opportunities we encounter to ensure we put the person/patients at the heart of the care we offer. It will showcase our wards journeys and direct reflections from nurses as part of a multidisciplinary team in assuming an intergral role in developing true person centred care.
