A meeting to discuss how to organise workers across the creative education and participatory arts sector
About this event
Battling inconsistent standards, unrealistic expectations, and increasing precarity that disadvantages our participants as much as our workforce, conditions in Creative Education and Participatory Arts are in desperate need of improvement.
Workers in further and higher education, participatory and community arts, arts development, museum and gallery education, arts tutoring, and any other work that involves creative learning and engagement, are invited to an open meeting to discuss how to unite our workforce and fight for better conditions.
Creative education and participatory arts workers share many concerns yet there is no single voice advocating for workers in this sector. Workers are members of different unions or no union at all because there is no obvious union for many of us to join. Rates of pay and terms and conditions in casual lecturing and participatory arts work are hugely disparate across institutions, and current union rates are not always applicable to the varied work undertaken in this sector.
How can we fight for fairer and more consistent conditions? What are our shared demands? Can workers across unions unite to improve our sector?
Workers and organisers from all unions or none are welcome to join this initial conversation about what we need to do to collectively improve creative education and participatory arts for the benefit of workers and participants.
