A life drawing class in an old chapel where you are invited to become the model and celebrate your body in an affirming space.
About this event
Join us for an evening of life drawing where you can choose to pose as well as draw. We want to celebrate everybody's body and give people the opportunity to express themselves physically as well as artistically.
Situated in a beautiful old chapel, the evening will begin with a short talk on the work of an artist for some inspiration. People will be invited to put their names down to pose at some point during the session, and we will have a short break in the middle.
Materials:
People are encouraged to bring their own materials as well as any fun props and outfits to pose with. Basic materials will be available on the evening for a small charge, and we will have boards available to rest on while drawing.
Inclusivity:
We are welcoming of all genders, races, and body types (and artistic abilities!). Discussion within the workshop will respect everyone's gender identity and pronouns.
The event is (obviously) 18+
Accessibility:
The chapel is accessed through a separate door to the main building, and is situated in the garden area out back. There are a couple of steps down into the space, and a couple of steps up into the toilet block.
Posing can be strenuous work, so there are lots of options for how people can do this - seated, lying down or standing, and for different durations of time. People can also pose with a friend if they would like.
If there are any other requirements in terms of physical ability, neurodivergence or learning needs, we would be really keen to make it work. Please email openplinthlondon@gmail.com to talk about this.
Also if you can't afford the cost of the ticket as someone on a low wage, receiving benefits, as a refugee or asylum seeker just email us and we can sort it out.
Charity donation:
20% of each ticket will be donated to the Women's Inclusivity Team. They are a charity based just round the corner from St Margaret's House who have been supporting the Black and ethnic minority communities in Tower Hamlets since 2004 through youth programmes, women’s empowerment projects, mental health support, food banks and a community kitchen.
