So you’ve seen the terms ‘open research’ or ‘open science’ (in Europe science means research in general) being bandied around. What does it all mean? What can it possibly have to do your research?

Come along and find out about open research and see how it might affect you and your future research career. You’ll learn ways you can contribute to a more open research environment, and find out why it matters to the EU, to the Wellcome Trust, UKRI and others.

Presenters:

Martin Wolf, Research Support Lead, Libraries Galleries & Museums - Martin leads the university’s team dealing with open access and research data management, and has over fifteen years’ experience of working on open access projects, presenting at conferences and being a discussion panel emebr on issues around open access and the future of scholarly publishing.

Judith Carr – Research Data Manager - Judith leads Liverpool Research Data team, the research data management service based in UoL Library.

Sarah Roughley - Sarah is the Scholarly Communications librarian and supports researchers in publishing their work on an Open Access basis.

Gaining a knowledge and appreciation of what open research is will help researchers understand how to incorporate open research practices into their work to facilitate the sharing of data and knowledge. This will increase the possibility of making an impact in all of the above clusters depending on the discipline of the researchers.

An understanding of what open research elements should be considered at the start of any project will feed into collaborations with other researchers, businesses and the public. The more that academic outputs and methods are open the greater the opportunity for the public to engage with out research.
