About this Event
As part of the Festival of Contemporary Music for All, Warehouse Café will play host to a jam/open rehearsal of contemporary instrumental music with a view to relaunching the CoMA West Midlands Ensemble. The jam will be led by members from Orchestra in the Shape of a Pear, a group of talented young musicians from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire passionate about performing contemporary music, who will be performing a selection of pieces from CoMA’s extensive back-catalogue by composers with links to the West Midlands alongside some new pieces by young composers from the conservatoire.
To celebrate international women’s day, we will be presenting a balanced programme celebrating female composers and commissioning a new piece by composer Millicent James, written specially for this occasion.
There will be the opportunity to play along and join in with these pieces as they are written in open score with flexible instrumentation. Be sure to bring along your instrument or come ready to sing to experience the variety of musical experiences performing contemporary music can offer: this should be a great introduction to performing new music to those who have never tried it and have curious ears! We will also be gauging interest in forming a specific CoMA West Midlands Ensemble so if this is something you think you might want to try, make sure to come along and see what it’s all about.
This event is completely free with no commitment to any eventual CoMA group forming out of the event. Sign up with a valid email address and choose the 'receive parts' add on to get a copy of parts to look at ahead of the jam.
