About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

What to expect?

This session is specifically for people with a physical disability, who may require more support to use our tools safely. An ETL staff member will be on hand to help, as well as two ETL volunteers. Unlike our regular Open Sessions, you do not need to book an induction before signing up for this session, we will work with you to explore which tools you are comfortable using and find replacement tools for those that are not the right fit for you!

If you are a wheelchair user, you can book a dedicated ticket for the session. Please be aware that we only have two tickets available for wheelchair users due to space requirements.

You can find our Portobello Workshop Accessibility Guide here. If you have any questions, email Carolina at carolina@edinburghtoollibrary.org.uk

During the workshop session you will have access to a wide range of large-format tools and your individual workbench. You will be joined by other members in a friendly space of learning and practising. You will work on a project of your own choosing. If you're looking for some ideas to get started, we have a few examples that volunteers will be happy to guide you on.

  • We have a variety of recycled wood available for small projects.
  • We also have a small range of consumables (sanding papers or screws, nails) available for you to use in exchange for a small donation.
  • We have PPE (mask, ear defenders, safety glasses) for all attendants but we recommend you to bring your own if you have them.
  • If you need any help or guidance, please ask our volunteers, they are eager to help!
  • Please note there is no possibility of storing your projects for the next time you come in. Our community workshop is shared and used by different groups throughout the week. We need as much space available for the magic of making to happen.
