OPEN SPACE EVENT
How can we Re:ANIMATE our cities?
Re:THINKING how we use our city and its resources
3rd May 2013
10.00am - 2.00pm
A group of people who are passionate about rethinking how we use our city and its resources will come together, share ideas, knowledge and experience and find new ways forward – or new people to go forward with. The event will be held in Open Space, which means that you can bring any question or idea related to this theme and know that it will be discussed. It is an opportunity to reflect on and debates and ideas that have come up at the festival so far and to find concrete ways of taking them forward. If you want to be part of this conversation, you should be there.
Who is it for?
Anyone who is passionate about rethinking how we use our city and its resources. This might include people interested in meanwhile spaces and pop ups, urban growers, architects, environmentalists, artists, urban planners, councilors and politicians.
What is Open Space?
In an Open Space meeting the participants create their own programme of self-managed sessions (such as discussion groups, experiential workshops, ideas sessions and planning meetings) related to a central theme of strategic importance.
Open Space meetings allow diverse and often very large groups of people to get together, discuss issues of heartfelt concern, share ideas, pool their knowledge and develop plans for collaborative action.
There are no invited speakers, and just one facilitator to explain the procedure and facilitate the plenary sessions.
Open Space meetings are particularly effective when people need to work together as equals to decide how they will bring something new into being or bring about a mutually-desired change.
Open Space meetings are particularly effective when complex or conflict-ridden issues must be resolved very quickly, and when people need to work together as equals to decide how they will bring something new into being or bring about a mutually-desired change.
The Four Principles Of Open Space:
Whoever comes are the right people.
Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
Whenever it starts is the right time.
When it is over, it is over.
The One Law of Open Space – The Law of Two Feet:
If at any time you find yourself in any situation where you are neither learning nor contributing... use your two feet.
Who is facilitating?
The meeting will be facilitated by Dan Barnard and Rachel Briscoe of fanSHEN Theatre. fanSHEN believe that “no space should be safe from theatre”.
Dan and Rachel have trained in facilitating Open Space with Lisa Heft, one of the world’s leading Open Space facilitators.
