Event description

Description

In The Power of Perception workshop, we help participants recognise the impact assumptions have on their experience of others and the world around them. In identifying our assumptions, learning where they come from and how they manifest, we open up space for more perspectives.

To ensure our survival, the human brain evolved to avoid one thing: uncertainty. If our ancestors wondered for too long whether a noise was a predator or not, we wouldn’t be here right now. This has enabled our brains to make fast assumptions. These assumptions are formed, not only by our experiences, but by the assumptions and beliefs formed, and reinforced, about those experiences.

This means that we perceive the world as we are, not as the world is. Whoa!

If we’re not able to recognise our assumptions or create the space to recognise different perspectives, we stifle our ability to truly connect with others and limit our ability to be creative problem solvers together.

Magicians have for millennia recognised this human trait and worked in the gaps of perception to create wonder. There’s the magician’s view and the audience’s view - two different perceptions of reality. But the magician holds more perspectives...

We'll start the workshop at 18:30, so make sure to arrive early.

What you will learn:

  • The different types of biases we are psychologically wired to have

  • That the way we see the world is based on assumptions and that these assumptions need to be cleared in order to be present with others and hear their perspectives

  • How to Identify assumptions and principles, notice the impact they have and question them in order to create the space to hear other perspectives.

  • How to feel more present
