Openarts Summer Youth Sessions: Stop Motion Animation

Step into the director’s chair and bring your imagination to life — one frame at a time! In this hands-on animation session, children will learn the basics of stop-motion using paper, clay, card, and simple tech.

Led by two experienced artists, kids will design characters, craft sets, and shoot short animated clips using tablets and the Stop Motion Studio app. It’s creative, collaborative, and full of storytelling magic.

Important: Bringing Your Own Device

We’ll have a few devices available to use on the day, but if your child can’t bring their own tablet or smartphone, no problem — just let us know when booking, and we’ll make sure one is ready for them.

If they can bring a device, please help them download the free Stop Motion Studio app in advance so they’re ready to go!

Session Times & Age Groups

We’re running two sessions on the day, grouped by age. Please book the time that corresponds to your child’s age group:

• 10:30 AM – 12:30PM: Curios Creators (P4–P7 / ages 8–11) Make a mini animation in small groups using clay or paper cut-outs/puppets. Learn how stop-motion works and bring your story to life frame by frame.
• 1:30PM – 3:30PM: Art Rebels (S1-S4 / ages 12-16) Create your own short animated scene — from storyboarding to shooting and editing. Use clay, collage or cut-outs to tell a visual story.

Parking Info

Limited parking is available for drop-off/pick up at Inverness Creative Academy. As the car park is often full, we advise leaving time to park at any of the following locations:

• Car Park Spaces outside Roots (formerly Velocity) Cafe
• The Raining Stairs Car Park
• The Council Car Park (next to Crown Primary School)
• The Eastgate Shopping Centre

Drop-off/Pick-Up

Please bring children through the main entrance of the Inverness Creative Academy. One of our artists will be there to greet children and guide them to the workshop as they arrive.

For pick-up of younger children (P3-7), please make your way to the workshop reception (just inside the main entrance of the Creative Academy) will let you know where to find us.
