Description

Brighton Digital Festival, British Science Festival and the University of Brighton invite you to the opening night of two concurrent exhibitions at the University of Brighton's Edward Street Gallery.

Join us for a first look at Dominic Hawgood's new site-specific installation, co-commissioned by Brighton Digital Festival and British Science Festival.

Alongside this commission will run an exhibition of six shortlisted finalists selected in the first stage of an open competition for a new piece of public art for the Huxley Building on the University’s Moulsecoomb campus, co-commissioned by Brighton Digital Festival, University of Brighton and Brighton & Hove City Council.

Dominic Hawgood is a digital artist combining photography, CGI, lighting design and installation. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2014 he has won the British Journal of Photography International Photography Award, been shortlisted for the Source-Cord Prize, selected for Catlin Guide, The London Open (Whitechapel Gallery), Fresh Faced Wild Eyed (Photographers Gallery), Foam Talent (Foam Magazine), and received a nominated for Deutsche Borse Photography Prize.

His site-specific installation and animation digitally reconstructs a major solo exhibition of his that was recently, and unexpectedly, cancelled. The animation serves as a hallucinogenic window into another world, questioning the role of the gallery, and exploring how light installation can be experienced in the virtual.

Acoustic elements of this commission have been developed in collaboration with producer Lanark Artefax, with interactivity overseen by Gregory White. The artist has teamed up with production partners Jotta Studio to realise the build.

This installation will run for the duration of the British Science Festival, 5th - 9th September, as well as the Brighton Digital Festival, 14th September - 13th October.
