Description
The new, permenant NANA Cafe is finally ready! We'd love for you to join us for our opening event on Tuesday 10th December. We'll be cutting the ribbon at 10am and then inviting you in for FREE tea, coffee and homemade treats. Make sure you come down early to avoid disappointment!
Just over a year ago NANA started as a pop-up from a Hackney pub - The Elderfield. NANA is a comfort food cafe hosted by lovely older ladies tackling social isolation, loneliness and bordedom particularly after retirement. We had a great time there meeting local people whilst getting to grips with how to run the business but soon realised that we needed our own space.
Fast forward a few months and we started talks with The Clapton Improvement Society who had just rescued some old public toilets from being demolished. Quickly we agreed that we'd turn one half into our new cafe and open the other half up as public toilets again after being shut for over 25 years.
...of course converting a space like that takes a lot of money. Most of you will have seen our Kickstarter campaign to raise £15000 to go towards the renovation and once again, a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who backed us and helped us to smash our target.
After a lot of hard work and a bit of elbow grease we're about to open our doors. We've even got a roof terrace with canopys and heat lamps.
We look forward to seeing you!
