Event description

Description

Across the UK, the last decade has seen sustained growth in makerspaces and communal studios where artists and makers share equipment, skills and inspiration. Stoke-on-Trent is no exception to this trend. On the occasion of the 5th British Ceramics Biennial, Jo Ayre, BCB’s Resident Artist and Studio Manager resident will host:

Opening Up, Moving In, Moving On

A half day event (a light lunch will be provided) exploring the role of shared studio space within professional practice

  • Spode Works, Stoke-on-Trent
  • Friday 27th October 2017
  • 10am - 3pm

This provocative event will generate debate on the relationship between shared studios and place.

Interactive sessions will explore a range of questions:

  • How do shared studio spaces impact on artists and makers’ professional practice?
  • How does a studio’s local context affect its business model?
  • How do we understand and approach the complex ecology of studios, artists, local heritage and communities?

Attended by artists, shared studio founders, managers and researchers from across the UK, this pioneering event will reveal and record diverse approaches to studio development, and lead to future collaborations between individual artists and studios.

This event is supported by Factory, Staffordshire's Creative Industries Development Programme and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund’s England Operational Programme 2014 – 20
