Open School Orchestras is a growing national movement delivered in partnership with Music Education Hubs, arts organisations and schools - providing young disabled people (aged 11-25) with opportunities to play in school ensembles and to perform. Open School Orchestras includes everything needed to establish and maintain an inclusive youth orchestra in your school - adapted musical repertoire, schemes of work and a new generation of accessible musical instruments - all underpinned by a package of high quality training and technical support.
OpenUp Music has been piloting the programme for the past 3 years and from September 2016 there will be 17 Open School Orchestras that stretch from Truro to Tyneside. Barry Farrimond, CEO and Technical Director for OpenUp Music, will talk about the history and future of this innovative programme, and how your school can get involved in the future.
