Opera Intensive – Italian Week
A five-day course for postgraduate level or professional singers at the beginning of their careers, delivered by world-class coaches from the National Opera Studio.
Monday 28 August – Friday 01 September
The Opera Intensive – Italian Week course will be led by Matteo Dalle Fratte, Italian tenor, musicologist and Italian language coach at the National Opera Studio and the Royal Opera House.
‘During the week we will be focusing on Italian diction and expression using the Melofonetica method, a new approach based on the phonetics of the sung language and how the rules of spoken Italian transfer into singing. This course will help you develop your Italian diction and expression, and your confidence and enjoyment in performing Italian repertoire. You’ll also learn to better understand your score and how best to interpret your role and composers’ styles.’ – Matteo Dalle Fratte
There are 16 places on the Opera Intensive – Italian Week course. Each singer will work intensively on Italian operatic repertoire during the week. Your standard day will be 10.30am to 5.30pm, and 11.30am to 8.30pm on the Friday.

• Italian play-text interpretation;
• Stagecraft Workshop;
• Movement with Karen Halliday;
• Recitative masterclass with Matteo Dalle Fratte;
