About this Event

Samantha Oxborough, "An artist in her early twenties whose voice has an intensity and a glow", The Spectator.

Lancashire born Mezzo-Soprano Samantha Oxborough is a recent Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduate and has just completed as a Young Artist at the National Opera Studio, London.

Roles include Métella – La Vie Parisienne – Offenbach, Cherubino - The Marriage of Figaro, Maurya - Riders to the Sea, and Patricia in Michael Wolters world premier of Ava's Wedding, Carmen, Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Mistress Quickly (Falstaff), Lucretia (Rape of Lucretia) and Suzuki (Madame Butterfly). In May 2018, she sang as soloist at Festival of Massed Choirs in the Royal Albert Hall after winning the Geraint Morris Award.

Pianist Melissa Morris is based in Birmingham and is Co-Founder and Artistic Director at Room Art. After graduating from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a 1st class honours degree in 2005 she was awarded Distinction LRSM for piano performance the same year.

An active recitalist, Melissa's projects with Birmingham Royal Ballet, CBSO, DanceXchange, Elmhurst School for Dance as well as Birmingham Opera Company. Melissa is passionate about sharing the joy of music and teaches at amongst others, Royal Birmingham Junior Conservatoire.

A short Q&A session follows the concert where audience members may ask questions to the artists. Translations with texts will be sent out before the concert.

Helen Astrid is a former opera singer with English National Opera and Garsington Opera Festival. She has considerable experience in giving talks on the history of opera both online and in the classroom and her Tedx Talk 'Tell me the Truth about Opera' has been viewed by thousands.

Helen lectures for Bishopsgate Institute, Cambridge University and Imperial College London and the International School of London. She is also Director of Corporate Singing Workshops delivering bespoke training sessions for companies and organisations around the world. www.operaliveathome.co.uk.
