★Opera Live At Home★ Relax, Pour Yourself a Drink and Enjoy!

We're delighted to present young Welsh Soprano, Jessica Cale this evening.

Jessica is the First Prize winner of the 2020 Kathleen Ferrier Awards in addition to jointly winning the Audience Prize at the 2020 London Handel Festival Singing Competition. Jessica has a few months left of her studies with Rosa Mannion at the Royal College of Music International Opera Studio where she is the Robert Lancaster scholar. Jessica will mark the end of her time at the Royal College of Music by performing the title role of Rodelinda in July 2021. Jessica holds a Master of Performance with distinction from the Royal College of Music, and a First Class Honours degree from Cardiff University. Jessica is hugely grateful for the support of an Help Musicians UK Sybil Tutton Award, the Josephine Baker Trust and the Countess of Munster Trust.

Accompanist George Ireland studies at the Royal College of Music under Simon Lepper and Roger Vignoles and with the generous support of the Kendall Taylor Award, the Hervey Benham Charitable Trust and the Pimlott Foundation. Originally from Harwich, George began to play the piano from scratch, self taught, at the age of fourteen, achieving grade five with distinction in two years and grade eight with distinction two years later. Soon after he was giving concerts throughout East Anglia. In 2013 he won the Tendring Rotary Club Young Musician Competition and as a result gave his Concerto debut with the Clacton Concert Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto K.595. He performed Mozart’s Concerto K.503 with the St Botolph’s Music Society Orchestra in 2014 to great acclaim, returning in 2018 with K.466. In 2016 he won the University of Birmingham Concerto Competition, performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the University Symphony Orchestra.

Helen Astrid is a former opera singer with English National Opera and Garsington Opera Festival. She has considerable experience in giving talks on the history of opera both online and in the classroom and her Tedx Talk 'Tell me the Truth about Opera' has been viewed by thousands.

Helen lectures for Bishopsgate Institute, Cambridge University and Imperial College London and the International School of London. She is also Director of Corporate Singing Workshops delivering bespoke training sessions for companies and organisations around the world.

Organiser Helen Astrid

Organiser of ★Opera Live At Home★ with soprano Jessica Cale and pianist George Ireland.

Helen trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London.  She is reconginsed as one of Britain’s leading musical figures and is sought after as an expert on the operatic repertory and on the voice. She regularly appears in the media, press and TV and lectures for Cambridge University, the Bishopsgate Institute and Morley College.

She enjoyed a career as a professional opera singer for 22 years singing at English National Opera, the Linbury Studio-Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Garsington Opera. Helen recently launched Opera Live At Home, providing a much needed performance platform for UK-based opera singers and accompanists as well as bringing live music to you at home.

Helen is also director of Corporate Singing Workshops, facilitating virtual and face-to-face team-building singing sessions for organisations and businesses around the world, bringing senior leaders and teams together during and after Covid-19.
