Join Old Tree Brewery on our first Apple press-tival from the 28th to the 30st October
We are heading to an Old Orchard near Glastonbury, to make 1500 litres of juice in two days. Its an adventure, and this year we are making an Apple juice and Cyder powered festival out of it!
We are planning to put up a marquee and fill it with ground matts and comfy things for us all to stay in and have a two evenings of music, fire and cyder enjoyement on the Friday and Saturday nights.
We have been invited to have an 'Apple Festival' by the owners of this magical ye old cyder Apple Orchard near Glastonbury. We are planning on hosting 30 people. Ten Old Tree staff and 20 Apple friends....
£35 contribution is asked for as a contribution for us to cover the three main costs of OPERATION APPLE PRESS
1. The food – we will bulk buy all food for everyone who can join us for two - three days, preparing cooked meals on both Friday and Saturday night.
2. The transport – we will be hiring a minibus from Brighton for us all to get down to Somerset on Friday enmasse and merriment!
3. The marquee (inc. lights and firewood)
So all the shelter, food & drink (inc.teas and coffees and biscuits) and the transport will be covered by the £35 we are asking for from 16 participants to join us in this.
In exchange for your help with the scrumping and pressing over two days we will also provide all cider for the event and share all our collective knowledge about pressing and juicing Apples, fermenting and storing cider, making vineger and other Apple drinks.
Everyone can also have a flagon of fresh Apple juice to take home for the week on Sunday (as long as the flagons are promised to be returned to Old Tree!)
We are doing this because it is incrediblely fun! But also important that we revive harvest culture in these times. We see massive harvest and fruit resecue operations like this as paramount to preserving what we have left of small-scale / human scale agriculture, in an economy that flattens it...
If we do not harvest our small orchards, they will continue to be removed and with the loss in biodiversity, genetic variety and cultural heritage, we will all be imporverished by this.
We are calling all Apple enthusiasts to join us in this mission – to learn how to press apples and ferment them.
Old Tree: Operation Apple Press 2016 is the last weekend of October!
